CHECK IN: The code is checked into the repository.
CODE CHECKOUT: Using a pull or push mechanism, the code is checked out and readied for testing.
TESTING: The testing is automated to the maximum extent possible with different tools. This minimises the errors introduced by humans.
BUG FIXING: In this, the bugs are fixed by the developer and a new version is checked into the repository. This cycle continues until all bugs are removed.
STAGING and DEPLOYMENT: The bug-free code is tested in the staging environment and when there are no bugs, it is deployed in the production server.
Automation begins with code generation (code refactoring, container orchestration, code quality control, etc.) and runs through all the steps until code is deployed in production servers (in Microsoft Azure cloud / Google Cloud / AWS or on premises). The code is automatically checked into version control software, tested (unit, integration, performance, security tests etc.,) after bugs have been fixed, is packaged, and deployed in staging or other specified servers, tested for acceptance, and finally deployed in the production environment.
DevOps support involves automation of the workflows, customer queries/tickets, prioritizing them, fixing, and tracking them to closure.
